Tata Safari/Tata Harrier – Long drive comparison
Ok. So I did my first trip in the Harrier XZA yesterday from Pune to Malvan. The route was Pune, Kolhapur, Gaganbawda, Malvan.
Pluses –
1. Amazing steering response
2. Good handling
3. Less/Controlled body roll
4. Pliant suspension
5. Good acceleration on straights and ghats
6. Sports drive mode transforms into a beast with mind boggling torque
7. Mileage from Pune to Kolhapur – 17.8 kmpl
8. Mixed mileage – 15.3 kmpl (bad roads, idling during railway crossing, ghat, full a/c)
9. Can match cars of a class above/beyond in terms of power, refinement, braking, speed
10. Speed masking is phenomenal. Only the stupid buzzer informs u that u have crossed 120.
11. 90-100 kmph is good economy region
Cons –
1. Roads are a mixed bag post Kolhapur
2. Many bad patches, no “gliding” feeling over rough roads
3. You cannot just drive over potholes, rough roads. One can feel them. This is very much unlike the Safari which used to just gulp everything down
4. The car is definitely wider than the Safari, needs getting used to
5. I missed the Safari a LOT
6. If ever Tata relaunch the Safari Storme (if pigs could fly), I will exchange it immediately
7. The continuous buzzer woke up my parents and they asked me to slow down
